Academic language-related challenges at an English-medium university

The study reported in this article investigated the linguistic challenges that students face at an English medium instruction (EMI) university Turkey. aims of were (1) to describe experience their EMI classes; (2) investigate how these vary according individual student characteristics; and (3) validate a research instrument designed explore academic language-related contexts. Data collected from undergraduate (N = 498) using online questionnaire, which had structure based on with respect reading, writing, speaking, listening. analysis revealed found writing speaking be most challenging areas classes. also significant differences by discipline, L1 background, prior experience, type exam taken meet university’s language proficiency requirements. Implications are discussed EAP support for L2 entry requirements programs.
